The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Amazon MGM Studios’ in-the-works series based on the Steig Larsson books, has brought on Seven Seconds creator Veena Sud as showrunner, Deadline has confirmed.

The series, which has been in development since May 2020, revolves around the Lisbeth Salander character from the books. It is a co-production between Amazon MGM Studios and Left Bank Pictures, in association with Sony Pictures TV.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo will take the iconic and much-loved character Lisbeth Salander and place her in today’s world – with a new setting, new characters, and a new story that will resonate with fans of the original and thrill a whole new generation, according to Amazon.

Harries, founder and CEO of Left Bank Pictures, will executive produce along with Rob Bullock.

Lisbeth Salander is the lead character in Larsson’s award-winning Millennium series. Salander first appeared in the 2005 novel The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. She reappeared in its sequels: The Girl Who Played with Fire (2006), The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest (2007), The Girl in the Spider’s Web (2015), The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye (2017) and The Girl Who Lived Twice (2019). The books have sold more than 100 million copies combined worldwide.

Sud most recently created the Netflix series Seven Seconds, based on the Russian film The Major, which earned a lead actress Emmy for Regina King. Sud is best known for developing and writing The Killing, on which she also served as executive producer and showrunner. She also directed feature The Lie and was a writer-producer on CBS’ Cold Case.
